Wellpoint Iowa Kicks Off 10-Year Celebration with 10 Community-Focused Events Across the State

Wellpoint Iowa is celebrating 10 years of serving Iowa’s most vulnerable populations by giving back through volunteerism, supporting community events and recognizing the numerous community partners and healthcare providers who’ve collaborated to enable the organization’s success.

The celebration kicked off in May with Wellpoint associates volunteering with the Special Olympics Summer Games in Ames and ends with Wellpoint’s presenting sponsorship of the New Visions Homeless Services Community Christmas event in Council Bluffs in December.

“Wellpoint is honored to serve more than 240,000 Iowans across their entire health journey; connecting them to care, support and resources; and simplifying healthcare to make wellness more accessible,” said Teresa Hursey, president, Wellpoint Iowa. “We could not improve the whole health of those we serve without the collaboration of our healthcare providers and community benefit organizations. That is why we are celebrating this 10-year milestone by recognizing our broad partnerships across the state.”

Since 2016, Wellpoint has invested more than $5,000,000 in community programs to reduce food insecurity, expand access to care in rural communities and advance maternal health and youth wellbeing.

Wellpoint’s 600 associates in Iowa will highlight and support the following events and programs through the rest of the year.

  1. Special Olympics Summer Games: Supporting equal opportunities in sports for those with intellectual disabilities

  2. Count the Kicks: Providing maternal health support in rural communities
